The mission of the Central School Gardeners is to provide kids from kindergarten through third grade the opportunity to engage in fun and rewarding activities while learning about gardening, growing their own food, and the environment. Through interactive after-school club meetiings, field trips, and the preparing and planting of an organic kitchen garden on the school property, kids will gain an understanding of how food is grown from seed to table, an appreciation for the environment, and skills in sustainability and self-sufficiency that will last them a lifetime.
The school garden will also provide a unique and exciting opportunity for Central School teachers to expand their classroom curriculums. Research has shown that science, math, and even reading and writing skills can all be enhanced through garden-related activities.
All residents and businesses in East Bridgewater are invited and encouraged to participate in this exciting project. We welcome any level of contribution: weekend watering, weeding, supervision of student activities, donations of supplies and funds, workshop presentations, or even just sharing your love of gardening. Every little bit will make a difference in a student’s life and to the community as a whole.
