The first meeting of the Central School Gardeners was a great success! The kids had a healthy snack of hummus, carrots, cucumbers and apples (and, yes, some of the kids did try the hummus), learned “The Garden Song”, asked Katie Cavanagh from Beaver Brook Farm lots of questions about pumpkins, and drew their “dream gardens”. At the end of the meeting, everyone grabbed their shovels and got their hands dirty at the ground breaking of the organic garden. A great time was had by all, and we’re looking forward to our next meeting on November 4th.
Below are some pictures from yesterday’s meeting taken by CSG committee member Korin Zigler. More pictures to follow!

While pumpkins seemed to be a common theme among the dream garden pictures, there were some very unique creations as well. Here, a group of the older kids show off their artwork.

Thanks to Jason Clement for removing the sod so that the kids would be able to dig easily (that grass is hard to get through!)

And the digging begins! Many of the kids were ready to start planting today, which led to a discussion about frost.

We have a lot of great diggers in our club! We’ll have no problem getting the garden ready for planting in the spring.

These members are serious about their task!
