The next Central School Gardeners’ garden club meeting will be Wednesday, April 13th after school. We will be spending half of the meeting outside in the garden. Should the meeting need to be postponed to the rain date (April 27th) due to inclement weather, a notice will be posted on the blog the night before by 7pm. It is necessary to make the decision on the evening prior to the meeting in order to avoid confusion at dismissal time on Wednesday. Please be sure to check here on Tuesday evening for announcements. If there is no announcement, then the meeting is on as scheduled.

We will also be creating “live” Easter baskets at the beginning of our meeting! To do this, we will need each member to bring in a small basket (an Easter basket is one example, but it can be any type of small basket) lined with aluminum foil (to prevent leaking when the seed/grass is watered) like so:

Please label the underside of your child’s basket with his/her name. We will be providing the soil and the grass seed as well as directions on how to care for the grass before and after the seed sprouts.

Here’s what the basket will look like after just a few days:

The grass can be trimmed or left as is. We think the kids will get a kick out of leaving out a basket with real grass for the Easter bunny to fill!

Since we will also be heading out to the garden, please have your child wear sneakers or boots and clothing that can get dirty. Also, don’t forget to send in a note to your child’s teacher giving permission to stay after school for the meeting.

See you next week!
