It’s been a hot summer so far, but the CSG garden is taking the heat in stride! The garden has proven to be surprisingly drought-tolerant; the tomato, pumpkin and zucchini plants are getting bigger by the day, and the beans, basil, cucumbers and watermelon plants are starting to take off as well. The peas are on their way out, but our volunteer tomato and mystery squash plants are filling in the pea bed nicely. The pumpkin plants are enormous and have expanded well beyond the garden fence, and there are several baby pumpkins on one of the plants! We’ll need to keep a close eye on the zucchini: there are several good-sized fruits on the plants today, and we all know how quickly they can grow into baseball bats (although the large zucchinis are great for making quick breads and muffins!). There are dozens of green cherry and grape tomatoes, and our volunteer tomato plants (exact varieties of tomatoes are yet to be determined) are loaded with green fruits too. There will be plenty to harvest towards the end of July and into August, so check back here during the next few weeks for updates.

Here are some photos of what’s growing in the CSG garden as of this afternoon!

Here's what the garden looked like at the end of June...

...and here's what it looks like today!

This pumpkin plant was less than half this size last week!

Three little pumpkins, growing outside the fence...

Just one of several zucchini waiting to be harvested (better not wait too long, though!)

Our first ripe gold cherry tomato--and there will be many, many more!

Two of our "mystery" squashes growing on our volunteer squash plant in the pea bed.

"Juliet" grape tomatoes.

We will be at the garden Tuesday morning (July 13th) around 10am – please feel free to stop by and see the garden in person! You may even get to take home a zucchini or two…
